The Commodore 64 is the worlds biggest selling computer model of all times. It was a 64K machine based on the Motorola 6502 processor and the entire unit was basically a fat keyboard with ports for attaching displays, drives and other peripherals.

The Commodore 64 system

The full system (not attached to a monitor) is pictured above. The power supply is a neat aftermarket unit that provides line conditioning and a spot to plug in additional items such as the disk drive (1541 shown) and a display.

Boxed Commodore 64

The system came with it's original boxes.

Commodore 64 manuals

And most of the original manuals as well.

The all-important fast load cartridge

The system also came with an Epyx FastLoad cartridge. Not shown are the many applications and games that came with the system.

This Commodore 64 was generously donated by Steve Gillett.

I have a C64 that is not working, along with a disk drive and a okidata thermal transfer dot matrix printer. And a box full of games, jsut sitting collecting dust. Contact me in regards to what you are interested in and I can get you a list and price. The C64 might work, if had new fuse installed on the board, can't remember if power supply worked or not. could be a good parts machine.

I found a Commodore 64 at the dump. It was in the swap shop. That is where people go to take things that are still good, but of no use to them. People are free to go there and take what they want. The C64 was still in the box. Everything was there. No monitor. I took it back months later. Now I wish I kept it.

I have a pretty mint (most still in original boxes) complete Commodore 64 System & Flight Simulator w/ tons of software, manuals, drives, disks of all kinds, and plenty of other extras I received in exchange for PC work I did about 5-7 yrs ago. None of it has been out of the boxes except (inventoried once), the color monitor (that 1 has some wear due to 2 sons using their old N64 system games on it), but it still works too.

Anyone still interested? e-mail me and I'll send pics and an inventory...negotiate w/ me as I hate it sitting in the boxes going to waste. This guy was meticulous about his Commodore 64.

Although I do have several C64 systems, I have been into the Emulation Scene. Very convenient to run C64 Software on the PC! Anyway, most people seem to be interested in the games that were available and not much on the applications that were aroud! Titles like Paperclip Publisher, Wordwriter6 from Timeworks, Doodle!, spreadsheets, databases, etc... I'd like to think I have the LARGEST collection of Productivity and GEOS software available on D64's & G64's available ANYWHERE!! - I have transferred all my own software back in 1997, and have been collecting and trading with other VERY nice people all over the net for the past 12 YEARS!! Write to me if you are looking for something, or better yet TRADE me something I DON'T have! - LONG LIVE The C64 COMPUTER!!!

The C-64 RULED in the 80's!! It was my first 'real' PC and is where I started to learn what would become my career path...Programming!

I used to run my old BBS on it, The Albuquerque Starport in Denver, Co! What a setup that was! What awesome memories too (and a lot of nights of lost sleep chatting with users!)

I am always looking for C-64 working hardware - 64's/128's or Amigas. 1541/1571 drives, MSD dual drives, SFD 1.2 GB drives, Lt. Kernal drives, etc.

If you have equipment to sell at reasonable prices, I am always looking!

(Submitted November 17, 2006 23:50:14 by Terry Raymond)

There is a company by the name of Creative Micro Designs that supported C=64 & C=128 from 1987 to june,2001. In around June,2001 Maurice Randall Click Here software in Charlotte,MI bought all the rights to CMD C= hardware, including copying & distribution rights to GEOS2.0. Maurice calls this now: CMDRKEY, website: www.cmdrkey.com CMD first in 1986 designed Jiffy Dos which is a Dos upgrade for both C=64 and C=128, after that CMD went on to design other really good hardware. Maurice Randall is trying to keep this going but sadly doesnt get his orders filled on time. CMD at: www.cmd.com no longer supports this hardware, CMD is now into PC and Macintosh etc. CMDRKEY is located in Charlotte, MI Maurice Randall also in 1998 wrote a new GEOS 2.0 upgrade called Wheels OS, for both C=64 and C=128. So think twice about selling your Commodore 64 or 128 setups, they are still very useful.

Hiya All, Im looking for a 1571 Floopy drive for my collection, Im in london and Im willing to lay out £30 for one. Also if anyone has a Commodore Z80 CPM Cartridge I'd pay £15 for one, just so I can experience CP/M on the C64C.

email: jhernon@btinternet.com

Well I started out on the C64 then 128 then A500 then A1200 then I switched to PC's and dumped all the gear. Now after working in IT for 18 Years programming VB/C/C++/SQL/PROGRESS 4GL/PASCAL/Wahtever etc etc etc

Im now starting collecting vintage C64 stuff and I really want to get my hands on a Z80- CPM CARTRIDGE that Commodore produced with the original CP/M Disks. If anyone spots one then please email me. The I can do some Z80 Programming on the Commodore 64C.

If anyone is really interested in an real cool system then search Google for C-ONE which emulates the C64.

Thanks James Hernon

Let's not forget the great effort put forth by some BRILLIANT programmers out there writing C64 emulators for us. VICE is my emu of choice, (v1.10 - I found subsequent versions to be unstable) but there is also CCS64 and others. For Mac owners, there's Power64! - Enjoy!

I STILL love this machine, even after almost 20 years. Now, I'm 52 years old, and have the (almost) latest computer built. Just so it runs my C64 emulators better. Yeah, I use it for internet, music, DVD and CD mastering. But, when I want to relax, I pull out some old issues of RUN or Computes Gazzette, and re-type some magic. I have 4 C64's, 1 VIC-20, 2 tape drives, 5 disk drives, and 4 C64-DTV's (One of 'em hacked). 3 more words: Jeri... Ellsworth... BRILLIANT!

C64 rocked, my first pc when they first came on the market, at my old school there were 2 gangs the C64 gang and the Sinclair gang lol. I feel it has been a privelige to have witnessed the computer revolution, to look at computers today and seeing them when they first came out in the early 80's

I have stories similiar to all of you...I was wondering something though. I picked up a huge auction a few years ago and there is a commodore related hookup in there that I have never seen and still don't know what it is. IT has a 25 pin connector (like for a printer) on one end and two things on the other end joined on the same wire that look like joystick hookups for the c-64 or atari. What the heck is this thing?

I have two Commodore 64 computers, one with beige keys and one with brown keys. The SID chips are dead in both of them though so I've never gotten to actually hear one. The chips are next to impossible to find unfortunately. I also have one floppy drive which worked for about ten seconds and then it died too. Very depressing overall. :(

A quick count tells me I have: 5 - C=64 units ... some not working. 7 - 1541 drives ... maybe five would work ok. 1 - 1702 color monitor ... works great. There is also FastLoad cartridges, game cartridges, a Gwiz modem, and more. Plus a couple hundred disks to paw through. I am willing to listen to any offer ......

My Commodore 64 is now sitting inside the crawlspace. I think I paid $300-$400 for it. I still have the 1541 5-1/4 disk drive and a NEC 16-color monitor and an Epson 9-pin matrix printer. I subscribed to several magazines for the 64 over the years which unfortunately were thrown away because of space problem. But I think I still have some reference books for the 6502 microprocessor (I was then a student in electronics) and also for the TI 99/4A (please see my input under TI).

I had a Commodore 64 with a floppy disk drive up until about 3 months ago. I threw it away because I was moving. I didn't use it much because I had an Atari 800 and I liked it a lot better then C64. Although I liked the sound SID sound chip in the C64 a lot.

You're right, John. What I really don't deserve, though, is to have as little free time as I do.

Unfortunately I was forced to put my C64 systems into long-term storage shortly after I got them so I haven't had time to photograph or play with them yet.

I will get to it, though, once I've got the machines back. I may add C64 info before that as well.

Thanks!

Erik

I had it backwards. MOS Technology did design the 6502 and Rockwell was a second source. There's some good into here:

Meant to include this in last post...

(Submitted December 18, 2004 22:50:28 by Greg Muth)

(Change UPPERCASE words to reply)

My second PC was a C=64. My first was a VIC-20, while my third was a C=128D. I did my first assembly level programming on these machines. I once wrote code to read the directory off the floppy and sort it using the shell sort alogorithm. Ah, those were the days... BTW, the 6502 was designed by Rockwell and (some of) the computers on the first space shuttles used the 6502. MOS was a second source for the 6502. Later, CBM bought MOS and produced the 6510 used in the C=64 and the 8510 used in the C=128. The C=128D actually had three CPUs: an 8510 to run in either C=64 or C=128 mode, a Zilog Z80 to run CP/M, and a 6502 in the integral 1571 floppy disk drive.

The C64 was my first computer as well as for a plenty of readers and visitors of this page. I bought it about 1982 and for about 10 years the C64 was used. I could gather my first experiences on hardware and software. It is still somewhere in the roof of my parents house, but I wont sell it. To find this page is allmost like a sentimental journey back to this time, we spent a lot nights in front of an TV set, fighting against enemies and so on. It was a long long way for the PC of today, before they could provide similar features and performance to their users, for instance stereo sound instead of anoying beep sounds. Sometime I am using a simulator, like VICE, to play some old games, it is ok - but it is not the same feeling. BTW, do you remember that MULTIPLAN, the predecessor of todays EXCELL, was running on C64?

(Submitted October 20, 2004 13:33:32 by Robin Harbron)

Yes, MOS made it, and to further nitpick, it's actually a 6510 which has an extra IO port on it, which the C-64 uses for switching RAM and ROM in and out of the 64k addressing space.

And there are still thousands of people using the C-64... check out lemon64.com, gb64.com, c64.sk, comp.sys.cbm - both nostalgia and new hardware/software developments.

I loved the Commodore, and did my household budgets on it using VisiCalc. Worked great. Then I got the Geos operating system...it was a slow dog, and in the end I got less done. Tell me that isn't the PC evolution in a nutshell! I also taught myself Commodore Basic, and that knowledge has been a benefit to me all my career as I build macros, AppleScript, Visual Basic, HTML, etc. In the end, knowing any command-line language is like knowing Latin...it's the key to all the other languages out there. Regards to all you fellow fans!

The 6502 was made by MOS Technology not Motorola. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technologies_6502
