I have been getting problems with IExplore for some time now on all 3 of my W98 boxes on my LAN. Each occasionally gives an error message "IE is unable to continue. Close the browser" or something like that. Usually there was also a reference in "details" referring to Flash Player, but not always. I've replaced "Flash Player" several times to no avail.
On my #1 box I bit the bullet and reinstalled IExplorer 6. I brathlessly awaited a possibility it would erase my hard-won LAN settings and was relieved when I found it didn't. However when I attempted to access several radio stations which I listen to constantly. Argghhh! Win media after accessing the site and referred to "loading buffer" quickly displayed "closed".
When I checked out my #2 box on my Lan however it still worked. Phew !! It could play the stations.
No need for suicide. Out here in the hinterland they help keep me more or less sane.
At one point my new installation gave me again a demand to quit IE, just as before, when I was in the VCF. You have no option but to reboot and it appears the IE rerinstallation hasn't solved the problem.
While there are sites which give assistance for problems such as this, they are usually addicted to the newest Gee-Whiz-bang computers and view W98 as only hopelessly outmoded and subject to discard, so I hope the list will forgive me or point to an alternative.
Any ideas on what my problems might be on these not quite obsolescent machines. The "details" doesn't always mention "Flash Player". Of course "report this problem to MS" is useless with this obsolescenced OS.
Perhaps a reinstallation of Windows Media Player 6 and an uninstallation of Flash Player ?
I'm lost.
