I picked up a whole TON of IBM PC/XT parts this weekend!

From what I can work out, there are 3 complete systems - 2 5150's and 1 XT (the 2 5150s have been dismantled). Extra 5150 chassis with no lid, 3 5153 displays, about 10 half-height drives, 4 full-height, several hard disks, brand new unused WD Filecard (!), new IBM Quietwriter ribbons and stacks of cards. There are also two PC keyboards, one of which has been painted black, but that looks like it can clean off with some thinners. Also around 1000 floppy disks of various software and 100 boxes of 10 brand new 3.5" 720kB disks.

Best of all, there was also an original IBM half-height floppy drive and blanking "drive" which I need for my late-model XT. Also found a floppy drive for an IBM 5155, which is great, as I need one of those too!

The guy did tell me he had a whole lot more, but dumped it - including several 5151 monochrome displays and several big boxes of full-length cards :(

Unfortunately every PSU has decided to die, but I think I can make at least two good machines out of this :D

Hardest part of all was getting it all in my car

And scroll down to the 'Sprint' section :)

2-litre 16v, 4-speed manual O/D, It gives around 130hp, so it's very quick too. I love it :D

Nice haul! Is that a package of butter you have in the trunk? Perhaps to grease the hinges if the back door is difficult to close.

Great haul! If you can't find anything to do with those QuietWriter ribbons, let me know. I'm getting one delivered in early May, and will be able to see it(it'll be delivered to my home in WV....the guy who has the printer is in CANADA and will be visiting relatives in WV....WHO LIVE IN THE SAME TOWN I'M MOVING TO! Small world, eh?) so I'll need to check the model numbers to see if I can still buy ribbons for it, like I can with the rest of my dot-matrix printers. He said there were accessories, so MAYBE there will be extra ribbons.

Nice little car! What you guys make small we make into monster trucks....

Funny enough, I had oiled the door and boot hinges that very morning. Not with butter though. That container was full of Quietwriter printheads :)

Yzzrdd, make sure that if you get the right quietwriter printheads for your machine (pop... fizz... disappointment)
& Nice motor, not too rotten?

The thing I find amusing about the quietwriter ribbons, is that you can hold them up to a mirror and read whatever had printed out! I wonder what the chances of finding the printer is...

It's only ever had the sills and front wings replaced (with genuine British Leyland panels) around 1991, but the rest is all original - including the paint. Pretty impressive for a British car with 80,000 miles and 16 previous owners

Nah, it's a 5150. 5-slots :)

In total I got two 5150s and one XT. Also a 5150 chassis but no cover. All genuine IBM.

I've got all the parts to build a perfect 10MHz 8088 clone, just no case!!!

just screw the board directly onto the wall and run some cables like a true VC enthusiast would do. i did that once in the basement with a 486 board.:p
