I just started posting, and never noticed there was an 'introduce yourself' section... duh!

Anyway, I'm Tim... 45, single, I enjoy long walks... er, wait, wrong forum :-)

I've been a computer nerd (pre-geek days, we were 'nerds' back then) since around 1980... I've owned just about every computer I could haul home in a car... from a Radio Shack PC1, half a dozen coco's, vic 20's, 64's, a couple 128's, every flavor of ibm pc's... I won't try to list them all... oh, there was that one computer that could boot up in dos or cp/m (had two cpu's, what was that one called again, I think it was an early Digital, you needed a terminal to use it I think).

I really never considered myself a collector, but just started cleaning out some storage rooms and discovered, I got a BUNCH of computer junk... hardware, software, I've got literally hundreds of 5.25 inch floppies full of PC software... I just found a TI99 mainboard in a filing cabinet of all places (I haven't a clue why I would have put it there). I just found a Radio Shack PC1 complete with several manuals... unfortunately, the screen is mostly black around the edges, so I'm guessing it's unusable now.

Anyway, I have a system set up for Dos (the best pc operating system ever... arguably the ONLY true operating system for PC's :-)... it's an IBM PS/1, 3.5 and 5.25 floppies, old soundblaster 16 (I found that in a desk drawer in my ham shack (KG8RJ), and a Supra 28.8 modem.

Which brings me to what I miss most about the good old days... BBS's... I literally LIVED on local bbs's in the 80's and early 90's... sadly, they're mostly gone, now... some you can telnet into these days, but it's not the same... firing up Telix or Procomm, hearing your modem speeddial the number, seeing those great ansi drawings when you connected... I guess those days are gone forever... and that makes me sad.

Anyway, the last 25 years of my life have centered around computers (I'm a tech, now, and own my own business)... and from reading a lot of your posts on here, I'm probably pretty typical among you guys... seems like a lot of you have stories about like mine.. living in a computer age I helped create and now curse because it's advanced too far :-)

Oh yeah, Hi! :-)

Hello Tim and welcome to the VC Forum!

Thanks for introducing yourself.

I miss the old BBS days also. I ran several including an RBBS-PC board in the early 1980s and a WWIV board during the early 90s.

Enjoy!

Erik
