I just got a Compaq Portable II off of ebay and need to replace the CMOS battery and insert a couple of isa cards but my best effort has not figured out how to remove the cover. I have googled for an hour to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Buddy

Took me a few minutes while I sipped a beer. It's hot outside.

Stand it up in "carrying" position, i.e. keyboard side down.
slide both side-access panels down.
There are 2 Torx screws on each side (inside) which screw into flanges on the cover, remove these & the cover will slide off upwards.
The handle stays where it is, it's connected to the chassis inside!
You NEED a Torx driver or 2 to work on the old Compaqs.
