http://search.techrepublic.com.com/search/Cracking+open.html So while you'll find a lot of non-vintage stuff as well, the one that caught my original attention was "Cracking open the Atari 2600". They have a few other vintage systems as well (Osborne, TRS Mode 4p, C64 are a few I see right now). While it's not 100% educational and I question some of the descriptions it certainly is interesting to see. Guess I've never opened up my 2600 like that.

Very nice find. I have a few 2600s and they've been "cracked open" many times. Actually, there were 3 different cases for the 2600 plus the Atari Jr. I believe there may also have been at least two versions of the six-switch model. I seem to remember reading that the first ones built in 1977-78 used off-the-shelf parts.

Ahh yes, the cracking open techrepublic galleries. I've been subscribed to them for a while now so I get to see new ones as they're added. Pity the level of technical info is usually lacking, be so much better if they actually knew what they were looking at, but sure saves me pulling things apart to have a look, lol

Yeah, I was reading one last night. I think it was the classic Apple. At any rate, he saw an AMD chip and exclaimed "I had no idea AMD had been around that long." I chuckled. AMD co-produced 8088 processor chips for Intel back in the early 1980s. But I still find it interesting. It's probably the only place I'll ever see a partially dismantled HP Blackbird 002 DE LCi.
