Hello,
is it possible to access with a IBM XT 5160 ( 512KB ram ) to a Novell Netware 3.2 Server?
I own a NE1000 8 Bit Network Card for the IBM XT 5160 and a original Netware 3.2 Server running on a retro EISA System ( 486DX-50, 16MB ) with 18GB! Diskspace ( Adaptec EISA Wide SCSI Controller with two 9GB HD-Drives ) .

The following is to access a NetWare server for file and print sharing only (no IP, eg. Internet access):
Prior to NetWare 4, the standard method was IPX.COM/NETX.COM
It's simple and therefore a good starting point.
IPX.COM is card specific and so you'll need the one for the NE1000.
The document at http://www.ncih.net/downloads/AppsviewCD/drivers/Pc1Pc2/Lans/Exprs16/Disk1/INFO/nwipx.txt (for the EtherExpress 16 card) contains good info.
One thing I'll add. That document lists the default frame types for the various versions of Netware. Your client needs to use the same frame type as the server, however most Netware admins simply configured the server to use both the 802.2 and 802.3 frame types, eg. here's an example SYS:SYSTEM\AUTOEXEC.NCF
file server name ALBERT
ipx internal net FFFF
load SMCPLUSS port=240 frame=ETHERNET_802.2 name=IPXLAN1
bind IPX to IPXLAN1 net=777
load SMCPLUSS port=240 frame=ETHERNET_802.3 name=IPXLAN2
bind IPX to IPXLAN2 net=666
load pserver mypserv POLL=02
load monitor
I've never needed to run IPX.COM/NETX.COM on XT class machines, only on AT class machines.

Indeed, I just installed Netware lite on my vintage machines, including a 5160.
The frametype gave me a headache, as at first I didn't noticed the different ipx.coms selected different frametypes by default.
ipx.com for ne1000 I put here (limited time):
ne1000.zip (http://members.home.nl/charon.styx/ne1000.zip)

Is it possible with a NetwareLite Client to access to a Netware3.2 Server? Great! I own 5 NetwareLite 1.1 Client Access Licences. Are there restrictions of the volume size on the Netware 3.2 Server for the XT Client?
