I had a dead VIC-20 doing nothing at home, so I thought I would do somthing interesting with it.

I decided to put in a small, VIA C3 based motherboard with a 2.5" hard disk. I will be swapping the hard disk for a Compact Flash card very soon.

So, its now my Vic-20 PC. Good fun for emulators etc.

See some photos here. (http://andys.dyn-o-saur.com/gallery2/v/computers/commodore/vic20pc/) These were taken before I swapped the black tape etc for velcro etc.

Next part of the project is getting the keyboard working. Luckily, some one has allready designed a USB interface for the keyboard. http://symlink.dk/projects/c64key

Cool, in particular the last link. I knew about Keyrah and Jim Brain's C=Key, but this seems like one more project to look into.

Are you going to cut the plastic to be able to access all the ports, or are the bottom ones enough for you?

The only ports im missing out on are the parallel port and 2 out of 3 LAN sockets.

I may cut the case at some point, but I may do more damage than good.

That's a pretty cool "case mod" if you ask me. Too bad you couldn't make the original keyboard work though. Still, cool job.

I would love to do something similar with a defunct TRS-80 Model IV. That would be very nice!
