You know how you google something from a keyword, and the site you end up at has nothng to do with what you were looking for in the first place ? That's SEO in action.
Speaking of google,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization
and
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=search+engine+optimization&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=100&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=off
should give you some reading material.

Patscc and Channelmaniac,
I wouldn't bother responding next time - that was spam. It was also off topic for a vintage computer forum.
The 'new person' asks a question, and then sometimes has a link in their signature that points to a product or service, or follows back up later with some wonderful links that answer their question. In this case the .sig for the user was a spam link.
The .sig is altered now and the user is banned.

And may I add, the Vintage Computer Forum ranks very high in the search engines which probably is a reason why these bots and people (?) come here once in a while. For that matter, at least it doesn't seem like Erik and the moderation team need any help in search engine optimization for this site. All the on-topic (sometimes off-topic) content drives it pretty good.

Hell... It's still good info for some of the folks on the forums that have their own web based businesses. ;)
Damn spammers should rot in hell.

Whoops. Never occured to me that there might be some one with nefarious intentions in these hallowed halls. Gues that's why it's called "moderated". Oh, well, I've done more emberassing things, fer sure...
