In going thru a bunch of my archived material, I ran across some stuff relating to a recent thread on the saving of old floppies and another which was the beginning of a Faq on floppies in general started by Tony Duell. I don't know if classiccmp did catalogue it and I felt it was too long to add to the thread. What is the policy of "stickies" ? What belongs in the Wiki instead ? There were many different FAQs from the different forums and newsgroups and while there was a central depository for FAQs (does it still exist ?) I have had problems at times of locating them. Would that also be the aim of the VCF Wiki ?

Some of them were the property of individuals which were guarded zealously. I'm reminded of the spitefull withdrawal of the Apple II faq by the moderator and it's replacement by a second one from contending posters. I have both. For a time I also even had problems locating the FAQ on Atari STs. I put together a larger Folder on STs including both the short Faq and the original as well as folders garnered on each component. Because of the insecurity of the availability of them I archived many of the FAQs, but not all, so that I had a source of info generally available to myself. At one time, at the height of my collecting, I subscribed to all the major Usenet comp.sys groups, and kept many of the posts. I did make a backup of the HDD to CD many years ago and intend at some point to back up the "puter" files particularly and reorganise them with new additions. Another "to Do" for my lengthy list.

There's a lot of material as well as old programs there. I'm wondering if there is some place I could archive this stuff. Possibly an adjunct to the Wiki ? With HDDs now so cheap and massive it shouldn't be a major expense, but centrality and access is a major concern.

Speaking of the VCF Wiki how does one find it from the forum. I had the link on my desktop but inadvertently erased it and have been unable to find it, even from the home page of VC.

The wiki can be found at wiki.vintage-computer.com.

I don't have a problem with stuff that's in sticky posts also being on the wiki.

As for file archives, I can probably set up a somewhat limited FTP site for some of the stuff, but it would depend on the size.

Of course, for any of these, copyright and so on is important. . .
