When I got my Windows 98 box, I noticed a lack of "hibernate" or "standby" feature, even when control or shift or whatever is pressed. I didn't care, untill I went to my friends house (he has the exact same ver. of windows), and he DOES have a stanby AND hybernate featere. WTF?!?

It sounds to me like your machine either doesn't have APM or Windows doesn't have the necessary drivers for it installed.

Keep in mind Win 98 was installed on machines as disparate as 486DX to Pentium 3 during it's run. That's a pretty wide jump technologically speaking. Lots of older machines simply lack the mechanical/electrical functionality to hibernate or standby.

Simply put, if you have something like a 486DX2 on an AT board, you aren't going to have the same shutdown functionality of a semi-modern computer.
