Hi All,

My calendar says that today is "Administrative Professional's Day". I thought that we could all chime in by signing off on these comments of thanks and gratitude toward Erik and each of the moderators of the Vintage Computer Forums for making it possible for all of us to get so much more out of using and collecting our machines. That's exactly how I feel.

Thanks guys!

Sean

Hmm, mine says "Earth Day."

Well happy Administrative Professionals Day! Thankyou Erik for running this fantastic site. Ahm, Terry, Vlad, and Mike (in no particular order, BTW), thankyou very much for moderating these forums and doing what you can to keep us from eachother's throats. Without ya'll, who knows where we would be.

It seems less, uh, respectful that way :) I was thinking professional as a person who has a bachelor's degree. But then, I wouldn't be surprised if the corporate secretaries generally had that level of education. The only one I've actually known about worked for a small firm and didn't.

There is a day for just about everything anymore.

I think you are confusing it with

http://www.sysadminday.com/

But thanks to our admins anyway! You rock!

Could be a function of how I feel about made-up "holidays".
Yes, it's important to thank people for what they do, especially if they do it well.
But creating a special day on the calendar makes it seem like it's okay to dump on them all year, as long as you thank them on that day.

That's the problem with "politically correct" terminology.
If it were still called "Secretary's Day", you'd know exactly what it meant.
But "Administrative Professional" is so ambiguous as to say nothing.

My advice is to thank your staff early and often.
Speaking as a sysadmin, I can tell you it works wonders, especially at crunch time.

I don't remember the exact date anymore but there used to be a pancake day. Seriously.

I think your pancake day is the same as Shrove (Fat) Tuesday, right before lent.

By the way, isn't facility manager usually a nicer way to say toilet janitor?

Hm.. maybe we need to make a vintage computer site administrator day. Actually I was going to try and find a link to all the ridiculous holiday/weeks/months there are but after googling a bit I figured I'd probably just get myself into trouble at work heh.

Oh you mean our porcelain administrative professionals?

What we need is a Vintage Computer Day. No more, no less.

I used to be a de facto secretary (psycho-terry), but I didn't do much administratin'. Mostly just took notes (minutes) and such like menial taskage. Since I'm the only one here to whom the day actually applies, thank y'all on behalf of all Administrative Assistants everywhere.
