Hi,

Some of you might know me on here, some not.

My name is Timber (or Tim for short) and I’ve been collecting video cards for quite some time now. Back in December I decided to make a website for my collection. It’s called The Golden Era of 3D Acceleration, and it covers all high end graphics cards from the very beginning of 3D in 1994, to 2003. The site contains many retail cards and also some very rare pieces of hardware, including prototypes.

This is purely a hobby, I’m not a 3D professional in any way, I’ve just got a big passion for 3D acceleration, games, and the hardware that runs them.
My goal is to keep this part of early 3D acceleration alive, sort of like a hardware museum if you like.

I don’t particularly like websites that are a work in progress, but I had to choose from either showing my collection already, or wait a long time for all the info on the cards to be completed.

Please have a look, and let me know what you think of it, either on here, or via tga3dx@gmail.com

The main picture gallery is under “The Collection – Golden Era” and then select the appropriate year.

Thanks! :)

Nice collection.

I collect 2D/3d cards that are gamer oriented and have quite a few. My favorites are probably the 3dfx series, just found a PCI Voodoo 4 4500 a few days ago. I started with the very first 3dfx card that shipped (Orchid Righteous 3d) and ended with a 5500 AGP. Mostly I have Matrox, ATI, Nvidia, 3dfx for 3D and 2D goes back all the way to CGA.

Does the bitboys card work (are they all working specimens or do you collect just for type and not sue)?

Hi! Looks like you got a fine collection yourself.

The Pyramid3D definitely works. The Avalanche3D I have not tested yet, when they got the chip back from the factory, they didn't even have time to bring it up properly, they only accessed the registers. Back then they where virtually bankrupt, they went to mobile graphics, and managed to sell one of their designs, hence they survived.

Maybe in time I will test it, but without drivers it's useless, also, I would first like to discuss it with Mika Tuomi, Bitboys CEO, pluggin in a molex that shouldn't be plugged in cuz it was just a backup could cause something bad to happen.

As for the cards, yes I do try to collect cards that work, but if it's a prototype it doesn't matter too much. :)

Interesting! Never looked at it from that angle.

I might need to go to my collection and see what I have- surely some, and I have no special interest in them, nor use them.
