I have a disc image for win98se, I want to add specific drivers to the CD and possibly strip it down for a less footprint on hard disk. Is there a tool to make this easy or will i be on my own.

Win98lite is the closest thing I can find, or Barts PE. I have been able to fit a full win98 installation into 400megabytes. I just unclicked all of the internet stuff, because i'm not going to be needing it.

There are a few tools you use to modify the WIn98 install scripts, which can get pretty complex.
Here's a good introduction ( for Win98 ) on MS Technet:

You can strip it down quite a bit leaving out the drivers for everything and just adding in the ones for your hardware, not installing the apps you don't need, that kind of thing.

Microsoft telling you how to modify a Windows 98 setup CD? O_o
well, i've always used 98lite and when I can find my Windows 95 CD I usually use the "Replace everything with the Windows 95 shell" option. 98lite is good, dunno about the other stuff

It all depends on how much into the nitty-gritty you want to get. The MS tools are what OEM's use to make their initial setup. They also do a decent job of explaining exactly what option in which inf file does what, and gives you finer control over what's going on than what 98lite and the various other hacks out there to de-IE Windows.
98lite is certainly simpler, though, so if you want it quick 'n' easy, use the 98lite tool suggested by linuxlove. If you want to go deeper, edit the inf files with the MS tools, or other inf editors.

Yeah, they tell you how to modify install disc's for mass deployment in an office building and stuff like that. Its a bit of a mind twist when they tell you how to slip stream a service pack and note you'll have to use a CD-R to burn your new install setup. There's a way to embed the key into it too I think. Its been a long time since I messed with mass deployments.
