I had never noticed this before. Has it always been that way, of is a recent development when changing servers. I would think most here are in the US

I would think most here are in the US
Last time I checked, the USA was divided into at least four time zones anyway. :-)

lol it's just because generally on a *nix-based machine, the system clock is set to GMT and software handles conversion based on your time zone.

Clocks of this nature would be Zulu time (GMt) so that GPS etc and software would be compatible irrespective of the local time zone..
