I have WinXP Pro SP3, and I recently started getting "Kernal32.dll entry point not found" errors when trying to run most programs (including Task Manager). I searched my system, and Kernal32.dll has gone missing! Without a repair install, what are my options?

Whoops. The reason I couldn't find the file on my machine is because it's actually "Kernel32.dll". It exists, but the "entry point cannot be determined/found". Goddangit.

Did this happen after an service pack upgrade? I've had that happen to me when trying to run older software after an upgrade. Otherwise, find the file from your distro CD and copy it back in.

(You've touched on one of my sore points; the spelling of "kernel". It's always been spelled that way. Same for "ridiculous".)

Nope, AFAIK I didn't change anything about windows. I just installed Moovida, some MSTS addons, and Vista Inspirat. Note that the computer in question is not connected to the internet. These files were downloaded, scanned with AVG and several other malware detectors, and then sneakernetted up to my computer. The computer was working fine with the aforementioned apps installed, then it just randomly stopped working right :-(.

You might (a) want to look for duplicates on your system and (b) compare your kernel32.dll with the one on your distro CD. There's something going on, even if you're not internet-connected.

Would I be able to copy the Kernel32.dll off of my other winxp computer and replace the faulty one?

I'd try it; I don't believe that they're serialized. Otherwise, try running the "repair" from your installation CD.

I'll see if that works. If not, I'm not sure how to do a repair installation with my special nlited cd...

Well, Chuck, thanks for the help, but I'm getting so many error messages that I'm just going to back up my current installation to my second hard drive and attempt a recovery install. If that doesn't work, screw it. I'll just reinstall XP. Or Vista. Or 7. XD
