ok.. my dad was working for MCI in the 90's, and they were replacing the mainframe computer that the office used. He managed to salvage one of the disks that it used and gave it to me as a gift. It doesn't have any stickers on it (except for the top and it's only labeled with a number). I'm looking for what kind of computer it goes to and what kind of disk it is. The disk itself is 17.5 inches across diagonally and 13 inches horizontally.

The Disk

Compared to the size of a standard DVD case

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure, but I'm going to guess that it's a cartridge for a Bernoulli drive.

Doesn't really look much like a Bernoulli cart. More likely something optical.

If I was to guess I would say that this looks like one of the first WORM drive implementation (Write Once Read Many) the disks would look like a CD but be transparent a flopitcal drive I think was another name for it.

WORM is different than floptical. WORM is not erasable/re-writable, but floptical can be written many times, just like a floppy disk. Either way, the cart in question is probably one or the other, or something similar.
