I have what is probably one of the first laptop computers ever made by Apple. The battery must weigh four pounds and the laptop itself weighs about 25 pounds.

Does anyone know what this might be worth? Where I could find a new battery?

Is it actually made by Apple? There were several companies that made portable Mac compatibles before Apple did. These were usually pretty expensive, since they used the ROMs out of a real Mac, so the buyer was sorta buying two computers, the Mac that the ROMs came from, and the new computer they went into.

Sounds like the Mac Portable.

Here is a good place to start:

If the acid battery dies, one can bypass it and convert the Portable into a luggable. One needs 2 AC adapters -- the original one and a 9V DC adapter. Take out the 9V DC battery and replace it with a 9V 1A power adapter. Then remove the battery and cover (there is a switch at the battery cover which we need to disable). Plug the two adapters in and viola! one of the sleekest Macs on anyone's desktop!"
(or let the 9V DC battery in place)

or reuse the case of the original battery
cut trough the plastic top cover (be carefull)
add the 3 cells, join them, ad the contactstrips
recover the case with glue and some tape

That's quite a work of thread necromancy there...

I had one of those a few years ago - fleaBayed it.

nifty, but ram-limited, and the HD sucked. Cool, though.

As I recall, that battery alone was heavier than most laptops are!!!
I believe there's a guy on eBay selling (2) RAMcards for these, right now.
