Hi folks.

I was cleaning house at the office and stumbled across an old 9-track tape gizmo that I believe would be referred to as a "deck." There are also a few tapes that go with it; some are used, some are blank. It has an old 8-bit ISA interface card.

I believe it was purchased in the late-80's or early-90's for a project that the government required to be submitted on tape. After that project was done, it was boxed up and sat on a shelf until I stumbled across it. The head doesn't show any wear at all. I don't have any computers old enough to hook it up, so I have no way of testing it.

Before I throw it out, would anybody be interested in it? If you would like to see a picture of it, just ask. My email address is whwright@zrhd.com

Keep in mind that this thing is HEAVY. The tapes are heavy too, especially when you get several of them in a box. It will take at least three boxes to send all this stuff to somebody (if anybody wants it).

I'm not looking to make any money here, and I don't mind the trouble of boxing it up and sending it out. I honestly don't know if these things are "rare" or "hard to find," but I hate to toss it before finding out.

Let me know!

Wayne.

Where are you located? Is local pick-up possible?

I'm in Oklahoma City (cultural center of the known Universe).

For those of you who may be familiar with the area, I live on the south side (near 89th & Walker), work on the north side (right by Baptist Hospital), and I frequently travel to Norman on business (THE University of Oklahoma).

Local pickup would be absolutely GREAT. Right now the machine is sitting on a chair in my office, and the tapes are at my house (I toyed with putting them on eBay).

Do you have any idea how much it will cost to ship?

Does this take special reel to reel tapes?

Hey Collector dude.

In a nutshell, it will cost a SMALL FORTUNE. I would guess fifty bucks or so. Maybe (or probably) more. It will take three boxes to ship everything if somebody decides they want it all.

What is your zip code? If you want me to, I'll weigh the whole mess and try to get a better shipping estimate.

I don't know if you caught it in the first post or not, but I also have about a dozen tapes that go with it. I believe they are "special" 9-track tapes, but I only call them "special" because I think they are different from audio 9-track tapes.

I'm no expert on this stuff; I just happened to find it in our office.

Well, I definitely want it, but not for 50 bucks. Save it and when you take a vacation to Florida, Ill meet you somewhere to get it, if you like driving.
Will you ever be taking a drive down here? I know its very far from OK, though. I was only in Oklahoma city once, and stayed in a house near a cool looking 60s skyscraper and dome on a road called Classen. I honestly would like your tape recorder, but I just dont think anyone wants to pay that kind of shipping cost.

Put it on eBay, someone will grab it up.

Well, the tape drive is gone.

Somebody took it for a "dirty Santa" gift. What a concept!

I have a friend who's family exchanges "White Elephant" gifts every Christmas. It becomes a friendly competition to see who gives the most humourous gift.

If you could get it back from that person after the gift giving, I would be willing to pay for shipping...
