i've googled until i can Google no more for these and can't find them... does anyone know where a god .pdf of the i8086 user's manual is?

Heh, I did the same search a couple of weeks ago, with the same results--nada. I did however, turn up the 8088 datasheet here:

Sounds like you haven't used Google
properly (or you're really after a manual
& not tutorials or guides).

I found this:

Try doing an advance search in Google. Type
in "8086"+"tutorial" or "8086"+"manual". In
the file type section select PDF (if you want
PDF files).
