does it work?

Terry Yager
April 20th, 2006, 02:02 PM
Works great! It's one of the old original 16K cassette-only models. It was actually the museum's display piece in it's past life. I was planning on keeping it for myself, but I've decided that the LNW-80 should satisfy my TRS cravings.

and do you have a battery supplie or adapter? and how long does the battery last

Terry Yager
April 20th, 2006, 04:19 PM
Ok, but just keep in mind that the pix are shot at a low resolution (640 x 480). I thought to keep 'em small when I shot 'em, so I'd be able to upload 'em, but then, like a dumb-azz, I zipped 'em all into a single archive...duh!!!

I thought the model 3 was an all-in-one desktop. . .

Maybe one can use a 50+ Ah 12V car battery to power it for a short while.

The one I have does not require any batteries, nor does any other any other one I've ever seen. Are you sure yours is not a Model 300O?

110v. AC only, no batteries.

This is the actual item (see attachment). Is it the same model you're looking for?

Probably a replacement power supply can be mended the day the original one gives up the ghost (if not the whole computer has given up the ghost before it happens). Only because a computer is battery powered doesn't mean it would work forever, the power distribution circuit from the batteries could go bad.

Does the TRS-80 Model 3 have a CMOS battery or similar? Maybe an optional real-time clock extention? For what it's worth, one probably can attach small Christmas lights around the unit, and power those via batteries, if you really need a battery application on the computer. :-)

Terry Yager

Nope! no batteries whatsoever (unless ya count the batteries that might power the cassette drive).

You are going to have to tell me where you live if you ever want to see the day where this ugly beast is at your front step.

Terry, how could it be the power supply if some things are working? Im confused

Terry Yager
April 28th, 2006, 10:40 PM
The power supply is not *a* power source, but a few different sources, namely, +12v, -12v & 5v. You could have a short or open on one rail but the others will still have output. IIRC, the display requires 12v, so a problem there might not affect the operation of the rest of the 'pute.
