I'm looking for a working (or non-working) IBM 5154 EGA monitor.
I might also be interested in a IBM CGA 5153.

I'm thinking of transplanting the guts of a small VGA monitor
inside of the (non-working) IBM case. I would like to keep the
classic IBM look for my PC-AT and display VGA graphics.
Maybe someone has tried this before......

Thanks.

Mikey99,

As for transferring the "guts" of a VGA monitor to the inside of the IBM 5154, I read it's been tried before and did not work.

One of the guys who founded the Uncreative Labs site (I think it was Peter Holowaty) tried to do this once. It seemed the curvature of the front of the VGA CRT was slightly different than the CRT that was in the 5154 and it wouldn't fit.

I've seen 5154's going for astronomically ridiculous prices on Epay ($100-$200). I've also read posts where people went to their local Goodwill stores and found several 5154's for a couple of bucks apiece. I never had that kind of luck though!

Thanks for the info. I've been checking yard sales recently.
Went to one this morning, at a local church, they had about
20 monitors, all VGA. Unfortunately all of the Thrift shops in my
area no longer accept computers as donations. Not sure why
because I used to see lots of computer stuff there.
