it will turn up down and left but when i try to move the character to the right nothing happens. anyone have any solutions to fixing this?

All Atari Joysticks had problems like this eventually. You need to buy a pad kit or a replacement contact kit. I've seen them on eBay frequently.
That or a replacement joystick.

Trust me, the joysticks are alot less valueble than the kits.
Just get a $5 joystick off eBay...
Genesis Controllers work too

But, what about when they go bad? 100 switchhes for under $10.00 don't sound bad to me:

I didn't get the repair kit cuz my friend needs a joystick. He says that he has a repair kit.

I use my fb2 joysticks. Mine need fixing, too.
