I got it, basically for the dual 360KB floppies, and the fact that they're beige.
Also to possibly scavenge RAM.
Unpack it, and the serial number is...... 8
Yup - 00000008 , or some such number of zeroes.
Now, I feel too guilty to part it.
 Now what? I don;t wanna start a Tandy PC collection.
Mebbe I'll toss it back on eBay in a couple months, with emphasis
on the low serial number.... :D

You should keep it, or at least keep it intact! It's one of the nicer and more interesting XT compatibles.
The SX fixed the major incompatibility quirks of the original 1000 while still having the neat T1000 quirks, like the wacky keyboard and the ability to plug into your TV and look pretty decent at 40 columns ("mode TV" in Tandy MS-DOS 3.20). They were extremely well made (in the USA, of all places).
The serial number is crazy...I'm sure it would add value for a lot of people.

Yeah - I double-checked it - model is 25-1054, serial is 000008

Be careful making assumptions about Tandy serial numbers. The first digit was often the ones portion of the year of maufacture. If this is the case for the 1000 series, this might be the 8th one manufactured in 1990. That is if they were still making the 1000SX in 1990.
I'm trying to verify that now.

I don't think so - 1988-1990 I worked at R/S, and it was already 1000 TL/SL by 1989, along with the HX (is that the 3.5" version?), ie, DOS-in-ROM models

It appears that the 1000sx was not available from the 1990 catalog. That is not proof that they weren't still making them, but I think you're correct on this point. They still offered the 4D in 1990 though.

I started working at RS in 1988/1989, and I don't remember seeing the older 1000/1000A/1000SX/1000TX in the store at ALL.
Only the TL/SL/HX, because I remember selling a few 1000TL's to some schoolteachers. The first one loved me so much, and the way I explained it to her, that she brought like another dozen of her co-workers and they all got full, complete TL outfits from me. I was top seller in the area for a few weeks while that happened. As I recall, RS had some deal, where teachers got like 25-35% off or something, and another 5-10% off if the applied, got, and used the RS card on the purchase.
The first one, she actually wrote to the district manager praising me.
That was really cool.
Anyways, back OT, I never even saw the SX in the store to sell during my tenure. I do remember seeing M100 DVI's in the stockrooms, PDD's, M1-M4 software coming out the ears, pocket computers, coco stuff.

That is cool, isn't it? :)
To go OT for a moment...some years ago the state inspector for weights and measures came to our plant to examine the digital scales (did I mention that scales and calibration is one of my areas of responsibility). I escorted him through the plant pointing out where each scale was. When he was finished, he asked to see my boss. "Hmm..." thought I, they all looked pretty good to me. He told my boss that I was doing a great job. Of all the plants that he had visited, ours was the only one where every scale was "right on the money." It's nice to be appreciated :)
