I need a copy of FLOPPY.CO ver 2.0.0 for the TPDD2 drive. I found ver 1.0.0 on the internet but can't seem to find the 2nd version.
I want to make some backup copies of my TS-DOS disk and looks like FLOPPY.CO is the only one that will copy the stupid boot program on the front of the disk.

I would be interested in this, too. Post a PM or email rcini <at> msn dot com
Thanks.

Did you guys check with m100@list.30below.com or with Rick at club100.org?

The "dl-arc.exe" thing on 100club has the 1.0.0 version only. I got exhausted trying to find the right version. I suppose I could go the long way around and buy some boot disks from club100. Overkill really.

Or ask the guys on the mailing list. Someone there would send you a copy probably just for postage if not for free.

Well, I tried the mailing list. If I want a backup copy of my TS-DOS diskette, guess I'll have to send Rick some money. Or just hope my one diskette doesn't get tired.

If you have a diskette with Version 2.0 on it, can you copy it using something like ImageDisk or a catweasel?

No, my problem is the drive came with the Traveling Software TS-DOS diskette only, no Tandy software came with it. The diskette works perfect but the boot file name starts with a blank, so I can't just load and save to another disk (illegal file name error).
It's ok, going to give up here. I have TS-DOS coming on ROM anyway.

Whew, there. I ordered a few Utility disks from Rick. Guess I should have taken that route to start with.

I was suggesting copying the entire diskette using an external utility. I routinely make copies of many different diskette types, even copy protected ones. If ImageDisk doesn't do it, then I have a catweasel that works on the actual signal from the diskette.

If I could make a suggestion...try giving Teledisk or ImageDisk a try. These are two format-independent disk imaging tools that I use for various old computer disk imaging. Go to http://www.classiccmp.org/dunfield/img/index.htm and download Teledisk 2.16 and ImageDisk. Both of these utilities work best from a real DOS prompt...not from within Windows...because they talk directly to the disk controller.
Make an image and then re-burn a copy and give it a try. If successful, then we can pass the copy around for archival purposes.

There's also a DOS-based program called PDD2.EXE, or sum'n like that. Look for it on club100. It (supposedly) allows you to jack in the pdd2 to a PC serial port and access it as if a native DOS drive (I've never tried it).

I tried teledisk - does NOT like 1280 byte sectors, end of that story.
The problem is the boot file is name " Boot2", NOTE the leading space on the file name. Anyway, I sent Rick 10 smackers for both Utility disks. I know BACKUP.BA will work to make a copy of the disk. I hope what I read about having to switch the disks 160 times is wrong.

Kelly: yes, I know what you were suggesting. You are looking at Mr. CopyIIPC (chuckle). Anyway, I stored all my old "tower" type PCs so too much trouble to dig those babies out again to get dual floppy drives again.

Y'know, you can define your own 'special' disk format for TeleDisk. I've muddled thru it once myself, so if ya need help, holla at me (mebbe I'll remember how I did it).

Imagedisk handles large sectors too, and the catweasel just eats up the flux stream. It doesn't care about bits, bytes, or even nibbles. I like messing around with weird floppies and trying to access the data on them. I'm working on a utility to extract data from diskimages directly.
I may send $5 for a disk myself (even though I don't have a tppd) and see if I can read it with any of the utilities I have.

OOPS! I meant 22Disk, not TD...

Duh!!! Turns out there is no such thing as a FLOPPY.CO ver 2. I finally figured out that Tandy TOTALLY changed the way file manager worked between TPDD1 and TPDD2. FLOPPY.CO turned into just plain FLOPPY but the new program was just a little stub "loader" at that point. Anyway, Rick Hanson sent me some "Utility disks" for both drives and both work great. $5 for each one was reasonable, as hard as these things are to come by. I immediately made numerous copies of those 2 disks plus my TS-DOS disk for the M100.

You know, this brings up an interesting question in my mind. I saw a project out there for emulating a TPDD2 using a Palm Pilot. Are there any other drive emulation projects for the TPDD/2 out there?
It should be pretty easy to cobble something together with a PIC microcontroller and some flash RAM (SD or CF). PICs are not my area of expertise, but you probably could probably even make one (less efficiently though) using a BASIC Stamp and some I2C flash memory.
Just some ideas for someone else to implement :-)

Based on this thread I tried to locate my own M100 disks and all I could find was a disk called "TS-RANDOM".
What disks did you order from Rick? I looked on his "orders" page and I didn't see a link for original M100 disks.
Also, sort of related, I'm going to try to make copies of my disks with Teledisk and ImageDisk and see what happens.

Forget the teledisk thing. I read somewhere that nobody has been successful at reading TPDD disks using native PC hardware.

I don't know if the TS-DOS folks, Traveling Software, are still in business. If so, you would have to buy a copy.
Edit: Hmm, Club 100 has the TS-DOS ROM available so I guess that Traveling Software has traveled into the sunset.
