I'm curious if anyone else has a favorite program to use as a machine demo?
For DOS-based peecees, I particularly like STSPLUS (http://www.dransom.com/stsplus.html) which is used to track Space Shuttle flights.
But even when there's no shuttle in orbit, it's sure to add a nice "mad scientist" flavor to any display.
Too bad they don't have any screenshots. :-(
What's your fave and for which platform?
And no, I don't mean demos from the "demo scene".

I've never demo'd anything, but I guess I'd use the original DOS Tetris, or 8088 Corruption! :p

I'd review some of the classical and most recent demos (audiovisual shows from demo groups, not demo versions of something) and bring those I like best. It may differ from time to time, and not always the most impressive ones are those that attract the audience. I quite well follow the VIC-20 demo scene, but lag behind by years on the C64. I have heard that this summer there have been a few truly astonishing 64 demos released, so maybe I should look them up. Many of these are PAL only though.

I'm familiar with the "demo scene" stuff, but it's of limited use for my purposes.
Too frenetic and in your face. The random "greetz" don't help either. :-)

What are your purposes? In my opinion, the demo scene produces the most spectacular shows, squeezing out every possible cycle from the hardware. It is true that the effects shown sometimes would not be possible to reuse in another application (e.g. a game) because they are streamlined for the demo.
Sure, stuff like Contiki and other desktop OSes are cool to show as well. Sometimes it is the hardware extentions - network interfaces, IDE or smart card interfaces, MPEG decoders, memory expansions and so on that you want to demo, not the old computer by itself.
