Thank you all! The big 17... heh. Just seems like another day to me.... I go at 3:30 for my driving test. Hoping I get my license today, although I have no money for a car. For now I'm getting insurance on my mom's Jeep. Mybe next year I'll be able to afford my own P.O.S. Then I'll just need somewhere to go....

Feliz Cupleanos! Wow, I was legally driving on my own at age 14-1/2. Didn't realize how young that actually seemed until my daughter reached that age a few days ago...

Passing your driving test would be the best birthday, but if not there's always next time, it was so long ago I can't remember how many times it took me, but if you can pass it in South Jersey you can drive wherever you want!! Happy Birthday!:drive:

Back now... I had a nice dinner at Denny's... LOL Extreme Grand Slam.... ate the whole thing, and then some cake. This should answer your questions:

Late congratulations to both birthday and driving license. A biological question though; is one's body fully grown at 17 or is it possible that you'd add an inch or two in the next couple of years, making the measurement in the license wrong?

I was wondering about the height too. I imagine growing to about 6'1", so that may be wrong in a few years.

Well, considering my license (covering eight years, but in some areas of the United States it is possible to get them for even longer terms) lists my weight as 185 pounds. Many DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) here just ask you what you think your height & weight are. Makes you wonder if you could adjust things enough to avoid being profiled correctly on an issued arrest warrant...

Does the driver license also indicate weight? How about shoe size, number of fillings in your teeth and whether you wear a piercing in your nose? Or for that matter your income (to easily deduct relative fines), civil status and hobbies (how many vintage computers you own). But what do I know, as technology evolves with smart cards and bioprints, a complete profile could be stored on the card, easily updated when needed.

A short story:
Four 1/2 years ago I was teaching a summer class at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT. I had to get a photo ID, and this particular ID had an entry for hair color. It listed my hair color as BLD. I never bothered to ask if that meant BLONDE or BALD. Both are reasonably true.
Happy birthday! May your hair not fall out for many years.

Have you see the new U.S. military ID cards? Same chip as the "Smart Cards", with magnetic stripes, barcodes, and information in clear text (and ultimately it does say things such as marital status, paygrade, which in some cases could be income, and many other things). To bring it somewhat back in the context of computers we use the Smart Card function to authenticate ourselves for military sites & domains (even from home).
