I went by there today and am going back tomorrow, let me know if anyone's interested and I'll get it and get it to you for the same price plus shiping (not in it for money, just finding homes):
TI 99/4A in box, no power supply, metal finish
TI program recorder, model PHP2700, shows use but looks functional
Mattel Electronics Computer GIN handheld game
Panasonic 8-Track player, model RS-805US, in orig box, has "good" written on the side
Compaq 12/24 GB DAT drive <<SOLD>>
various PS/2 keyboards, mice, pc speakers
Lots of Sega games, ONE full system, cd and cart games, joysticks and power supply<<PENDING>>
Please consider these things untested and they'll be cheap. I'll have a price list tomorrow after I talk to Ken (The Electronics Guy). I get the cheap prices for the untested stuff, heh heh.
On a related note, Ken tells me that there are two other guys that look for the odd stuff like I do. I left my number for them and hopefully I can get them to trade with me. I mean I have a ton of stuff and my wife loves when I trade a lot for a little. I might even introduce them to the forums here.

Iinterested in the DAT drive, depending how cheap it is. Which SEGA system was there?
NathanAllan
January 20th, 2007, 02:23 PM
Make me an offer for the DAT. PM me.
The Sega is a Genesis with the 32x and the CD expansions. Also, there are LOTS of games with it. so think two big boxes after good packing. ken told me $50 to buy all of it, shiping will have to be extra. I can get a complete list come next Friday.
Also, I nowhave the TI machine with me. let me make a list of the stuff that I got and I'll post it here.
More stuff:
ULTRA 386 SX20, just came in so unknown condition
THREE PIII systems all with no ram or hdd
GE program recorder, MINT in box (box isn't mint) I have one of the same model and they do a great job.
4-port Intelligent Switch, has 4 centronics ports on back marked print 1 Print 2 Channel 1 and Channel 2
STAR WARS Electronic Battle, battleship game
GREEN exit sign. It says EXIT in big green letters.
NES game system, i could probably dig up controllers and a PS for it.
CHINON video camera, I think it's a Hi-8, has a square tape cartridge bay, model 722P XL
Ken tells me to give him offers.

How old are said PS/2 keyboards, and mice? Any Sega Saturn CD's? That Panasonic 8-track is worth about $50 if in unused, and working condition.
NathanAllan
January 21st, 2007, 12:50 PM
The mice and keyboards are new-ish and in pretty good condition mostly. And there are a few Sega CD's, yes. The Sega stuff Ken prefers that it be a lot, cause it is a LOT there. I don't have a complete itemized list but I will make one next I go. I only get a few minutes on Friday and sometimes Saturday to go over there and look around. I'll try to maximize the time I have there.
I'll go ahead and tell Ken to hold onto one of the PIII's Vlad.
I didn't really give the 8-track a second look, just noted it was there.
The oddball item was the green EXIT sign, and it stuck out so much I kinda like it.

How are the CD's, in jewel cases?
NathanAllan
January 27th, 2007, 12:35 AM
Most of the cd's are in jewel cases, the big fat ones that they came in with original covers. Some are in sleeves but those are only a few. It's a huge, instant collection of stuff. Sorry I didn't seperate the cart by type (there are three types) but I didn't have that much time in the store today.
I was tempted to take the CC myself, Curtis, but MY wife would kick my butt, too! :) Along with the working machines in the other thread, I have a bunch of parts/projects, like 20 or so. So I can't have many more.

I don't see why each person should not have a small amount of disposable income they can buy anything they want with without asking.
carlsson
January 28th, 2007, 10:52 PM
In many cases, isn't it a matter of space more than money? Ok, a small machine such as the CC-40 may be possible to put away in a spare drawer, but larger items tend to clutter up the house. Another classic I've read about is to bring in the goods at night, and then when the wife sees it one week later, one goes:
-"No, no.. That computer has been sitting there for years!"
GraceUGrad2006
January 29th, 2007, 03:39 AM
that is a good point a person should be allowed to have a disposable income for the things that you want. I should of been more clear in my earlier post it was not the spending money that was an issue it was the lying becasue I never made a big deal about him wanting to buy things becasue he earned the money and he was an adult. I was really commenting on the respect for your wives feelings. that is a very admirable trait.

The 386 laptop is gone, I don't know what happened to it. Noone there knows anythign about it so i am guessing it was one of those things that happens whenyou deal with a volunteer group. To put it nicely, it got permenantly borrowed. :(
The 2600 4-switch tested bad.
I'm going to work on a system to deal with these situations.

Well, I guess I'm lucky because my lady will actually go and pick up stuff for me and doesn't even blink an eye when a truck pulls into the driveway filled with old computer stuff that THEIR wife made them drag out of the basement.
Of course, it doesn't stay around long. I do triage, clean up and test the ones that still work, fix the ones that don't, sort, test and inventory the parts that are loose, track down anything I don't recognize and then it, usually, goes into collections around the world. The stuff from around North America that people send me to repair is going to be going back to their owners when it's fixed, so, that's not a problem either.
I suppose if I was KEEPING all this stuff, there might be a problem, but, after I fix something, I want it to go to someone that will enjoy it and I seem to be too busy fixing 15, 20, 25 year old equipment to actually have time to sit down and play with it.
I guess some of us have to collect and others have to keep their collections going and I'm doomed to be the latter.

IBM PC Convertible. I tried to test it with the power supply but it didn't turn on. The ps stayed plugged in for a good 20 minutes, so it should have gotten worm but didn't and I didn't have time to use the battery charger. And my digital camera decided to finally crap out on me (time for a new one) so I can't get to any of the pics I took of it. I'll get pics up soon enough, though. It's in the original box, big box, with the display adapter, power supply (possible shot), battery charger, printer cable, user manual that has two homemade disks in it, has two fdd's in front, looks great with very minor scratches around the power inlet, and various odds n ends I was planning on showing pictures of and I can't remember. Odds are it'll need a new battery, which the old one is present. The screen had no scratches on it at all, the whole thing could have been new. So the worst thing of all is the getter of this would have great looking parts.
I'll be able to get pics on Monday from a friend's camera.

I've got six "CRT" slices for three complete systems, so I'll offer a few out (only two serial/parallel slices, so I need those). The 128Kb NIB number five, but I can't remember if I've got everything maxed out on the complete units. Without the 256Kb modules (I'm looking for a couple) it takes an easy hack.
Holding on to the separate monochrome and color displays. About three of the thermal printer slices too. Four PSUs, with one a little different. And the auto adapter.
Three GTO books, plus the diskettes (version 1.00, 1.01, & 1.02; I'll check what the online "Starter" diskette image on the page I offered is). Also have volume 1 & 2 of the Technical Reference, so I might be adding quite a bit to the webpage. It will take time for some updates to appear.

I think you misunderstand, I'm not keeping this thing, it's up for sale soon for the shop. So if anyone else is interested (I'm sure they will be) it'll be for them. Monday I'm going in to test the battery and power supply and see what happens there. If it needs either I'll come up with them.
I didn't take the battery pack out, what kind of cells does it have inside? I have some old dustbuster batteries that I can use if that's what it calls for (work great in the Epson!). The charger is there, unopened, so if the battery is good at all then I'll see. (doh! Just checked the page, sub-C, dustbusters)
The other volunteers have warned me about the staff on Mondays, I don't know what to expect from the people. I hope they're not the "borrowers." They actually have a nickname for the people who make stuff disappear; Night Raiders. Fabulous.
/edit pics will be up in a minute. I kinda like the Apple as the cover pic.

I there a big market in your area for vintage gaming and computers? I live next to a big city and there are some stores that handle older games but most of the time they do not have most of the rarities that you find.it is general easy to find games and we have hardly any computer stores that carry older models. maybe i am going to have to move lol

Nah, don't bother. I just scour every place I come across and have been kinda lucky lately. I expect it won't last. As far as older hardware, not no but hell no, all the computer shops around here carry all new, all the time. I am one of the few vintage people in town, and a lot of the other ones can't wait to upgrade from their 'junk.' So if you wanna move someplace that has computer stuff, try east Texas, or Colorado, or Missouri. NOT this part of TX. Have I mentioned that I'm moving as soon as I finish my degree? I am. There's nothing here of much intersest. It's industrial, shipping and oil refineries. And a few thrift shops. Nothing else special.

I've noticed that if I visit my local thrift shop on a regular basis, I can watch a perfectly good item go from having a box and all it's pieces to a single piece of worthless junk in the course of a week or two. It put me into such a funk the other day that this definition came to mind:
Thrift shop (noun): a machine which, over time, turns perfectly good stuff into absolute junk.

As long as I'm at the Discovery shop I treat any of the hardware that gets to me as if it were fragile and do my best to keep it in good order. I don't let people handle the stuff too much.
I take care of it and don't just throw the stuff around. When it gets to *me* it leaves in the same condition as when I got it.

I finally got there today before they closed and WOW what a collection of vintage machines! There's a neat little new-ish computer storefront, but if you go into the warehouse you could get LOST in all the tech back there. Maria did :) Roger was out of town, the guy there said that there was some kind of family emergency. He'd be back Friday. I left my number, but am going back tomorrow anyway. Hence, I couldn't buy anything vintage.

Nothing spectacular but I always give you guys first pick:
Sony Playstation, original console, console only. $11
Sony Playstation orig with one controller, $12
Sony Playstation orig with two wireless controllers, one missing a battery cover, each controller takes 2 AAA batteries. $15
All of them have been tested to work great, the controllers are pretty neat but they don't have the analog sticks, much like the original controllers. And the one missing the battery cover means that it'll have to be taped. Both controllers have a selector switch to go from P1, Off and P2. They worked at 6 feet and that's as far away as I could get with new batteries (didn't test further). They've all been gone over really well with windex and a paper towel and I left no residue. Got some other stuff in but it still needs to be tested. If I can throw anything in as a surprise bonus I will.

There seems to be no interest here for these items, which is fine. I'm taking them elsewhere. So the Sony PS's are no longer available.
FIRST PICK:
Original NES ststem, looks pretty good, has two controllers and light gun, replacement power supply, and has the infamous flashing screen error. Most likely it is the internal cart connector that needs replacing/repair. I can throw in a couple of games, too. $9 plus shipping. PM me if interested.

If I found a PS1 around here for $10-15, I would certainly pick it up, but shipping overseas (for an NTSC unit, no less) would not make sense. But good luck in your continuing hunt, you seem to have found a decent source of items, albeit a bit more gaming related than otherwise on this forum.

Most of the stuff is gaming related, true, but every now and then I'll get a gem in. Like now, to be tested, is a C64 in box. I haven't offered it yet cause I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Since I've mentioned it I can let it go untested for a few dollars.
There just aren't that many vintage computers in this town. They're a big fan of destroying old technology here :(

Every machine goes through a cycle where its new and desireable, old and can't give it away, and retro where there is interest in people buying it. Most machines get recycled in the "old" category when they are worthless and plentifull.
I think machines like fast 386/486 systems were trashed in such large quantities that they command a few dollars on ebay now (for DOS gaming rigs or who knows what).
Do game consoles ever realy go out of style?
In my area finding anything non x86 related (c64s are still plentifull) is hard. I have never seen an Amiga or Atari 800/st being offered on freecycle locally.
NathanAllan
April 2nd, 2007, 09:08 PM
I've looked on Freecycle and can't find a thing available in El Paso. WHY AREN'T PEOPLE MORE INFORMED IN THIS AREA!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, sorry for the yell. It just ticks me off that this area is so out of it. "It" being most anything technical. It was even in the Sunday paper that El Paso needs to be more educated. Isn't it that 50% of the nation is online? I think I can say it's around 30% here :(
NOTHING is plentiful here unless you're talking abot car parts or industrial equipment.

Perhaps you are one of the few groups of people who still do some real work, unlike the other of us who tap away on our computers all day, under the impression that it will bring us food and shelter.
Tapping away and messing with wires, that's what I'm shooting for.
Got very little, but wanted to post in case anyone was interested.
Iomega 250MB drive, USB, in box, $5
N64 controller, stock, w/rumble pack, $1
HP ScanJet 5500c w/CD, $10 (looks great)
Not much but first pick goes here. PM if interested. Been having to deal with finals at school.

Pretty great find, though not from the DS, but the flea market and it's kinda on comission to me for sale. It's a military styled 386 SX with 1mb ram, everything is OD green. Here are pics:

hit next to see all 5 of the pics. The bracket is hanging off only cause I forgot to click it back in place when the cover was off. Anyway, it has a Dallas RTC battery in it and has lost its settings. The hdd is a Conner CP-3044, what are the settings for that drive? The guy says it has win3.1 on it, but I gotta get it to see the hdd first. What's the generic setting? Type 47?? I can't remember.
Anyway, when I get it fixed and maxed out on ram (eight 30-pin simm slots, four populated) and maybe up the hdd and maybe put in a couple of controller cards (two free ISA slots) it'll go up for sale, and as always I give you guys first shot.
No batteries, straight AC input to an onboard power supply. Monocrome screen, lots of potential.

Which store is it you're finding these toys at? (the one you said had a bunch of vintage stuff in the windows). Just curious.. can't tell if it's in west (*WEST*) texas or New Mexico or what.
With gas prices can't tell if it'd be worth a weekend venture from central texas or not.

It's in Las Cruces, New Mexico. With gas as it is I can't justify another road trip unfortunately. And it's right down the road from me. I'd email him first if he's selling anything of interest first. Do a google for edgardigital, it'll come up.
But I get a lot of stuff from all over town here in El Paso. It's just few and far between. NM is better.
No idea on the 386 portable, huh? I'll experiment now that I have time.

This just in: Atari 2600 VCS, great shape, with two controllers(wouldn't hurt to be rebuilt), RF modulator upon request, power supply. The switches are a little bit loose but all are functional. It has aftermarket parts on the inside so it has been repaired at least once. Very nice, hardly no wear on the outside. This is one of the Light Sixers as it's called.
$12+ship. Superlight, so shipping will be cheap.
