I'd like to hook up a AM reciever (and hopefully a AM transmitter).Anyone got any ideas?I know how one works but I need help with one without a germanium diode.They have a .3 voltage turn on, a regular diode has a .6 volt turn on.Any ideas?

Not to be overly picky, but what area of the forum were you trying to post this in? This doesn't seem to have anything to do with PC hardware.

I'd like to point out that data transmission over the AM band would be terrible, thats why WiFi is so high (~2.5 GHz) AM can't really reach that far either so range would be very limited. This would be more suited on OT.....

Hm. Nowadays there are small FM transmitters that have a range of a few meters. I suppose one could hook it onto a vintage computer sound output and voila, you get your own SID / SoundBlaster / anything radio broadcast. It might be useful at parties, demonstrations or anything else where you don't have a line in option, but a FM receiver. Just trying to get a bit of on-topicness here... :)

I was going to attack it to a z80a SBC and it wouldnt be terrible 100-1000 Khz because thats as fast as one can read and I would use binary no amplitude modulation.

Um, AM is an acronym for Amplitude Modulation. That what AM is.

I know its just I have heard the term "AM" so much I generally use it for a frequency range e.g. 500-1700 Khz.So uhh any ideas?I figured out the fequency for serial transmission.Its 106.something something with a 47Pf and a 20k resistor.Now I just need the reciever.I don't want to transmit over miles, just about 150 feet.

Have you thought about packet radio? Not really homebrew but it can be fun. I think you can also use those cheap-o family radios with headset jacks. I think you need sound output, though.
