View Full Version : Where to get signature on machines

I have been trying to figure out if I can make it to the VCF east this year because I'm thinking about having Chuck Peddle sign my 2001-8 PET. I can't decide if I want him to sign the front or back of the machine or if I should do this at all.

So, this brings up a question that I thought I would ask others for opinions. I really treasure this early 2001 chicklet model and have the original box for it and it is in working condition.

Should I get my PET signed and if so, where?

Across the monitor, of course! :)

I'd probably have him sign along the side of the case or someplace like that. Visible, but inconspicuous.

Tell him to stop by my place to sign my two next time he's in the Bay Area! :D

Using a permanent marker across the screen, and then Tipp-Ex if you need to wipe it out?

I think the best place would be the back of the monitor in black, or the back of the case in white, as it wouldn't ruin the "museum" quality of the visible part and would add overall value to the rest of the unit without detracting from the aesthetic appeal. If he does agree to do that, be sure to take a photo!

The only PET's I have are two SuperPET's, but one is missing the second processor. The only other PET I'd want is a 2001-8 like yours, but I can't really afford the roughly $350+ going rate right now for one in good shape.

I'm going to try and be at VCF this year, but who knows with my schedule these days...

I would vote for the inside of the bottom chassis, in the back between the IEEE port and the power supply/fuse. Or someplace it'd be visible when the chassis is open. Pets are relatively easy to open, and you can show it off without devaluing the system.

I guess I am saying that autographs devalue a system from "museum quality"

Normally I'd agree with you, but it's the system's inventor for crying out loud, so how could it devalue the system, especially if it's on the back? To me, the value would increase. However, I'm not a big "museum" believer myself for this type of stuff, so I couldn't speak for that crowd.

See, this is a tough question. If this were an Apple II, it would be ok to have Woz sign all over the front.

Is this an insult to ask for him to sign the back of the machine's monitor?
