I have limited computer knowledge. I want to add a usb 2.0 card to an old pentium computer (60 mhz). It has 128mb ram and 3GB hard drive. It also has Windows ME operating system. Microsoft states that Windows ME minimum requirements are 150mhz but yet it runs on a 60mhz cpu. So, I am wondering since the minimum requirement for a pci usb 2.0 card is 266mhz will it actually run on a slower cpu (60mhz)? If not, why not?

The answer is Yes and No. It will most likely work fine given the right drivers for ME, but, you may not get the full maximum through-put of the card.

If it was a problem, I bet your P60 is a socket 7, so much faster processors that will work can be found for almost nothing :) I have a whole box here of Cyrix 233/333 MHz processors if you are in the UK you can have one for postage :)

The Pentium 60 is probably vintage, under the 10-year rule, but the rule itself is becoming more and more obsolete all the time, as more and more totally uninteresting older crap becomes available.

Now, now...the Pentium is not altogether uninteresting. That is, after all, the only CPU in my memory that was officialy considered "math challenged".

Or where there others?

By official rules set by our almighty admin himself, the 80486 class processor and BELOW are on topic, anything newer is OT. The 486 is right at the border and thats where we cut it off. So 486 and older discussions are on topic. Pentium, while interesting is off topic.

Swinging back on topic, the original '386 had a math bug also...(the early ones without the double-sigma).

Since ISA slots are no longer on motherboards, it should be if the motherboard has ISA slots it is on topic.. :) You know, for DOS gaming questions.

Cheers,

Is it possible to create a subvintage section to accomadate said borderline computer discussions?

That would just cause issues on what is "subvintage" and what isn't. Its easier to operate off the On Topic or off Topic system.
