If I put the wrong type/speed of ram in a modern PC, will it damage the PC (I'm not really bothered if anything happens to teh rams)?

Simple question :) I have some lying around which I want to test out.

It will work, but at the lower speed. You won't be able to fit the wrong type of RAM as they are notched differently.

And the PC will sync to the slowest memory, if you have several of different speeds installed?

I know DDR will clock down to the lowest speed, I dunno about SD. I know RDRAM forces you to use the correct speed, but its pretty picky on what you do with it.
