I heard about Hitachi making a 1 TB drive not that long ago. Wow, we've come a long way since the MFM days....

I see it as for every year, there is more and more data that can be lost in a hard disk crash. In particular if you forgot to take regular backups.
But when you speak about a 1 TB USB drive, don't you mean a static memory like a memory stick, not a hard drive connected through USB? I see that already today, you have no problems buying a 16 GB USB or CF memory, and at least 8 GB SD.

Nope, they are normal disk drives in a USB enclosure. Super common these days.

Awesome. I had an MFM drive, but it sadly gave out a long time ago. I think I still have an RLL one in a PS/2 somewhere.

Does it exist something weird like an SD to MFM interface, given that there are plenty of memory card interfaces for IDE and other more modern devices?
