I found this forum while googling for some IBM Series/1 EDL manuals. Since I'm a vintage computer kinda guy, I thought I'd join. I'm 68, a retired IBM'r (34 years at it) who just got an offer to consult on upgrading some old Series/1 EDL programs.
I worked hardware for the 1st 14 years of IBM, then switched to the software and sales side of the house. Been retired for 6 1/2 years, and still have several pc's and servers in the house. Can't seems to get away from this stuff. ;)

Welcome to the forums!
Wow 34 years at IBM, you must have seen some pretty amazing progress at your time there.

Yeah, from 'old grey iron' punched card machines to the latest/greatest mainframes. I started out working on relay circuitry and when I left the hardware end, the first IBM pc had just been introduced. It was quite a trip. I'm just jealous of the trips that are starting today. Think where they will end up in the next 30-40 years...

Of course, I'm the guy that got google to find this place. I did about 8 years of EDL. First for the Hilton Hotels, then for Baxter Healthcare. I learned how to do the "519" and the "407" and the "088" in high school /68/. 3 years later and all that plug stuff was totally obsolete. I did get to kick a 1442 for a few more years after that. I still have dreams where I'm "fluffing" the cards and putting the weight on top of the reader. My right finger hurt when I was looking at the "029" on ebay yesterday (you had to flip the eject switch to clear all the cards, it would frequently stab your finger as you let go of the switch).
