hmm... does it have a mod chip? i'd love to stick a hard drive in it and run linux.

my PS2 is broken.:(

How would I find out if it has this "mod chip?"

if you bought the PS2 and never put one in it doesn't have one. it's a little chip you can solder in there to make the system let you play any burned discs you want, including homebrew software and/or linux. :D

with a USB keyboard and mouse + plus the PS2 network card you can turn it into a budget desktop PC.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I am not the original owner, but instead the second owner. I will ask the original owner about the chip. Couldn't you but one peretty cheap, or use the one in your old PS2, using a de-solder-er?
Anyway, I am pretty sure it doesn't have it. But it is in near perfect condition, and the USB ports are working.
