Recently got high speed through Comcast (yuck) And i did the speedtest via utorrent, Around 4000kb down, 384 up. Problem is when downloading i usually get only 500kbps down and uploading maybe 150... Being new to this I have no idea on what I can do to speed this up (or even if i can).

Anybody have any tips to make my connection faster? Thanks!

Those ISP listed speeds are max speeds you could recieve, however you are still limited to the speed of the server you are connected to and also subject to internet congestion. Basically the more users on a network, the more congestion. I remember beta testing RoadRunner in my area in like 1996, I was one of 2 people in my area who had it. It was FAST, insanely fast, I would constantly get >10 ms ping in online games and downloads were damn quick. Fast forward 10 years, I'm lucky to find a game server with >50ms ping and average about ~150K download speeds, sometimes faster and when its faster it is like 500-1000k just depends where im trying to download from etc..

Don't forget that with Torrents, the amount of Seeds you have accounts greatly to your speed. Also, some tracker's dislike certain clients. I'm not sure about uTorrent, though my stepfather has it installed on one of the 24/7 rigs at my house, & it seems to be going well w/ the 8+GB torrents I throw at it!:P

Oh, & don't forget about the whole 'B' vs. 'b' thing. Capital B means bytes, lowercase means bits. So divide your Kbps speeds by 8 to get your KBps speed.

uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) is for Windows..

There are two things you can do to increase your throughput:

- Use LvlLord's Event ID Patcher (http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads) to increase the number of TCP/IP connections. (50 is what you want)
- Make sure your ports are open on your router! Port Forward (http://portforward.com/) has all the information you need about this. Having the proper ports open will also allow uTorrent to properly give back what you have taken. *Always* give back at least the same amount you have taken!
