Well some may not consider the 1990s video card vintage, but some do. At any rate, I need a PCI or ISA 16mb or 32mb video card for my 1996 IBM PC 750(pics are in vint. comp. collections "latest freecycle find). I also need a small sized 3.5" hard drive for it. Looking for the original size of 1.7Gig. Could also use some extended EDO memory, while I'm at it.

Thanks

I want to find a 16MB ISA card too :)

I would think 4MB PCI video cards were the norm for that machine.

Thanks for the disclaimer. We consider it to be non-vintage here.

Post moved to off-topic areas.

I think I have seen ISA video cards with at least 8MB, perhaps 16MB. Obviously they would've been very late ones, and perhaps not so much added use over a 2 or 4 MB one, which tends to be about as much memory you need for decent colour depth.

Or am I mixing up generations, and am trying to say that I've seen PCI cards with 16-32 MB? *scratches head*

I am just looking for something that will play doom I and II well on my computer. I suppose 8Mb would do fine.

I used to play Doom on my old Pentium 166 way back in early 1996. I think that graphics card was 4MB and was one of the best you could get!

Doom 1 runs on my 486DX4-100 with a 1MB graphics card.

I wasn't sure if 4Mb would do well, but i'll take your word for it. I tried to install doom I and II on my new Compaq, but due to complications with IRQ and DMA it wouldn't work. Trouble is, is back then, sound cards would be on lower DMA(5, 7, 4...) but mine is on 17. My IRQ is on channel 4, but Doom only recognizes 2,3,5,6 and so on, BUT NOT 4!!! It was very angering. So, now I need that small hard drive, so I can install windows 3.11 FWG and play doom. It is all a very frustrating process. So, I suppose I will accept 4Mb as well. But keep in mind, I can also do PCI.

I found the HD, but not the vid card. Maybe I will try one of my ones I forgot about, and hope I strike gold.

Thanks for the help

Doom can work on any VGA card. It doesn't use the graphics card for acceleration, and uses the CPU to work.. It is rendered with a Binary Tree type engine.

In other words, I have played Doom I and II on even a 256K VGA card with no problems. ;)

Thanks for the help! I aactually don't need one anymore. Mostly because I sold the machine, with two other 1998 ones for $90. I also found two video cards at Thrift World that should work nicely.
