As you may have noticed, currently the USD is somewhat weak. To some of you it is poor news, for others it is an opportunity to save some money on imported goods from the USA, or while taking an vacation in the States.

Over here, the nominal exchange rate since 20-25 years ago has been about 7 SEK/USD. Counting since 1993, the extremes have been:

November 27th 1995: 6.46 SEK/USD
July 6th 2001: 10.98 SEK/USD (ouch!)

Today, July 6th 2007, the rate is 6.74 SEK/USD and dropping. It is the lowest rate in ten years, and a big difference since six years ago. I doubt it will hit the bottom record, but perhaps down to 6.65 in the next week?

In any case, it makes it a little bit lighter for me to buy things priced in USD. Not that it really matters. The money I save on a $200 amount equals buying three gallons of milk.

OMG, milk here in US is more expensive than "petrol". I haven't looked at milk prices recently but it was well over $3 a gal not long ago.

Boooo hoooo, I sure miss the milk. I got "lactose intolerant" around 30 something so can't drink it anymore. Sure miss it. And yes, I tried those "pre treated" Milk deals where they add the enzyme or whatever, not very effective. I can still eat ice cream, which seems strange to me. Some ice cream does have a mild effect to the negative but nothing compared to drinking regular milk.

Hell, I wonder what the price/gallon is for beer? Someday I'll have to do the math...

Here, milk costs between 5.00 - 7.50 SEK/liter, depending on where and which brand you buy. 1 gal = 3.79 liter, so around 19-28 SEK/gal. Use the current exchange rate, and you get 2.80 - 4.18 USD/gal, avg. 3.39. So, the price comparison holds.

Gas is a different story though. Over here, the average price of 95 octane corresponds to about 6.50 USD/gal. Once in a while some stations have a rally and drop the price to 5.50 for a few hours. Refilling when that happens is a nice surprise. Yet, Sweden is far from having the highest gas prices in Europe. For example I believe it is even more expensive in the UK.

A litre of unleaded costs around 95p (Although the most expensive petrol stations charge up to ~£1.05), I think 95p is about $1.90. Being brought up with metric, I dunno what it is in gallons.

I was just at the store, $2.48 for 1 gallon of milk. I dunno about gas, I just know it sucks having such a huge car. Why, why did I have to go for the one that had a V8?

They were almost giving the V8s away when I was looking for a van. Took me a few to figure out why, nobody wanted them.

Its not as bad as it could be, but is far from the best. Its a 20 gal tank. When thats empty, it hurts the wallet.
