yeah, yeah, I know. There IS a section dedicated to australia. But this post is more about ebay and auctions, and feel it should go here. Although, mods, if you disagree, please feel free to move it.

Anyone notice Australia's new prominece on eBay? About 2 weeks ago Australia has become a frequent country I see when looking for stuff, mostly vintage computers. Anyone know why Australia has had such a boom lately? Was a tanker-ship load of water-proof boxes of computers found in the sea lately? Where they found way in the "outback?" Maybe eBay made a change to foward Australia stuff to the "english" part of eBay...I don't know. Maybe someone else does...

Maybe because people know I don't use or trust eBay so they stick it on that. Before it was on eBay you could look up things like the Melbourne Trading post and even the regional Trading post and there would be lots of Vintage computers in there. That is where I got my Amstrad CPC6128 back in 1994 - of course the Internet was only just starting then, though back then you could have a selection, even the CPC664 (the rarer of the 3 original computers - which comprised of the CPC464, 664 & 6128) were available. I nearly got one, fortunately though I thought the extra 64k in the 6128 would come in handy along with some 5.25" Disk Drives (cause the standard 3" discs cost a bit - though I brought a few from the UK earlier in the piece and saved a huge amount!).

Anyway what kind of machines are coming up? Nearly everyone who had a kid growing up in the 80s would almost for certain have had a C64 in the family room (or bedroom depending on the number of users), I'm unsure what other machines came here, I once saw an Atari XE for sale at the local Secondhand shop, and we definitely would of have Spectrums here as well (since the newsagents had Spectrum magazines loaded with Tapes on the front cover), and then you've got your Amiga based machines and your Atari (moving from the 8bits to the 16bits), I have trouble coming to grips with those horrible machines since their part of the reason CPCs were replaced with those kinds of machines - it bugs me even to this day! :-x

I'm unsure why Australia would have this sudden boom in terms of Vintage computers being sold, perhaps people have kept them for all this time in their attics and have only just realised there could be value in them and a market for them on eBay, I used to feel that a lot of them were subjected to the rubbish dump when they broke down.

Anyway it would be helpful to know what machines (in general) are being sold.

Please note that out of those 14 items, they stem from five different sellers. It is enough that one seller lists 5-6 items simulataneously to make it look like a flood. Given a population of 20.4 million people (UK: 60.7 million, Canada 33.4 million, USA 301 million) it is not too odd to find a handful of people listing a truckload of vintage computing items world wide.
