I've never seen anybody voluntarily sell themselves off on a forum before! :p
What exactly are you wanting for it? so the other members can know what direction they want to haggle you in.

One also has to wonder why someone would set up a working system and then not show it working.

He (or she,) mentions that the display turns on, but is not working. This implies that the computer works fine, but not the monitor.

I sold myself on eBay once as a gag. Actually, I was impersonating my dog, selling off her master, with the proceeds going to a charitable animal rescue group in NOLA. Unfortunately, nobody bid on my $0.01 auction. I guess I'm just worthless.

Yes, I saw that, but, that begs the question "How would one know that the computer works, given those circumstances?"

This might just be me, but I think everyone is still rather worried this system might not be the best deal, and I cant blame them.
Also, why sell the moniter with it if its broken? I've yet to have heard of someone successfully fixing up those old green tubes, little less gutting it and adding a new crt.
This is just my opinion (and several others, maybe), but an Apple ]I[ is just not an Apple ]I[ without the Apple ]I[ moniter, it's a collector tradition of mine, and I stand by it.
And Druid has a point: If the computer does work, how are we to know that? It would be anywhere from $70 to a $100 wasted for nothing.
Apple 3 (the member, noobs) has been quiete lately, has he confirmed anything to somebody by pm?

I understand your concern that the computer itself may not work. I am the original owner. When the monitor stopped working, I put the computer in a closet. You all are quite right that in 2007 the computer itself may not be working, even if it worked ten years ago.
If I were to obtain a working monitor and the computer worked, what would it be worth high to low? Or is it even worth it to complete the set OR just junk it.

I certainly think it's worth something, but the Apple III had some fairly common issues making a working one a touch harder to find. I'm not sure what chance you'd have finding just a monitor.. I could have sworn I recently saw one but can't remember where.
The catch is some of us (atleast I do) already have a working Apple III so as much as I'd like to see it not get tossed, I have most of the same manuals and gear so to make an offer + shipping it would be hard to justify.
I think on average a working Apple III will get around $300 on ebay, a broken one will probably go over $100 but the problem is if your computer works it would be ashame to sell it as broken if it's in nice condition. Then of course shipping with that wonderful (steel?) case will be around $70 which is what makes it hard for someone to risk a sale not knowing if the system works.
I can't recall by memory however if you can find a way to get the Apple to display something on a composite monitor you might be able to show it working.
Again, I wouldn't toss it or anything but I don't think you'll get as much for it in it's current state.

What I mean is that maybe it would be nice to know a bit more of it's history, like what the conditions it was in with the place you left it in, and what exactly that place was.
EDIT: was it only the apple 2's that had composite tv output, or do the ]I['s have one as well?

Both the computer and monitor were in a closet in my bedroom for the past ten years in Southern California. The computer was bought in 1983 in New Orleans and was transported by truck to Los Angeles.

The Apple /// will take a composite monitor, but, it seems to be kinda picky.
Mine will drive an Amdek amber monitor and a Commodore 1084 quite nicely, but won't sync a Commodore 1802.
All of them work fine on my Apple ][+

Now all Apple 3 member (I'm getting bored of typing ]I[, so I'll stop) needs is an amdek amber or 1084 moniter shipped to him, or he could start testing any moniters he can find.

I'm just saying that those are the ones I have that work and don't work on my Apple ///.
Any old piece of crap composite you could pick up at a "good will", junk shop, where ever, would show it working.
