Hello from the frozen Tundra, also known as Green Bay, Wisconsin ..... well the Packers finished out the regular season 13-3, while my poor Carolina Panthers .... well let's not talk about that, shall we?
Been browsing the forums for a while now, but just now signed up so I can throw my 2 cents in every once in a while.
Well a little about being exposed to various computers through the ages...first computer I ever used was a TRS-80 Model I, my friend Danny owned it -- was hooked onto a game called "Invasion Force" -- basically a lot like the old Star Trek game based on a 10X10 grid, I believe. Eventually I wound up owning a TI-99/4A, bare bones, no Extended Basic or disk system, just the computer, a cassette recorder, and my old black & white TV. Later on in high school, I finally got an Apple IIe with 128k, disk drive, and an amber screen monitor (Zenith, I think). Later on I got rid of all that stuff when I moved to Wisconsin.
Fast forward to two years ago -- I went to an antique store because a friend of mine owned a comic book shop so I figured I'd check out the antique store for him to see if any of the vendors there had any decent comics for relatively sane prices. Didn't find much for comics ...... but ..... I did find a Coleco Adam computer with everything except the original box itself. It even came with about twenty or so different Colecovision cartridges. Well that vendor had a 20% off sale on all of his stuff, so I wound up getting the whole package for a mere $40. That pretty much has started my love affair with picking up older computers and older video game systems -- it's been a lot of fun and certainly takes me back to the days when the games themselves were actually .... well, fun. And playing around again in Basic and Assembly Language on 8-bit microprocessors, I'm having a blast!

Yes indeed. Back to the days when computing was fun and you could get much closer to the metal so to speak.
Welcome to the forums!

Although I'm not a big fan of either Dallas or Green Bay, I'd love to see Brett Favre get one more Super Bowl ring. I don't think there is a tougher, more durable competitor than Favre, as his consecutive starts would attest to. But if Favre retires, then the Packers have Aaron Rodgers. I know Rodgers is supposed to be the "heir apparent" to Favre, but he appears to be made of glass or something, he just gets injured waaayyy too easily. But I like Tony Romo, he has that passion, he actually reminds me of a young Brett Favre.
Love the NFL -- in a way I kinda wish the seasons were longer, but the season length works well since in all actuality, pretty much every game played matters when it comes to your postseason hopes, unlike baseball.
Thank you to everyone with the warm welcomes, it's good to hear from fellow vintage computer users! :D

Well from someone at about equal the distance from the real Tundra as you are south from me, Welcome. Here in Canuckistan we Curl or play hockey, as well as some football.
The VCF archives have much in them to discover. Unfortunately no search engine.
I also have an Adam and the CollecoVision module, including about 20 Cartridges and some tapes. Getting it working properly is part of my too-extended to-do list.
The Adam user group seems to be still very active. http://www.adamcon.org/
I must say tho, from the visual evidence. that Adam users enjoy their food as well. :^)
Sour grapes as I also have about 25 lbs. to lose on my new years resolution list.
A reflection of an enjoy-the-good-things in life attitude. I'd bet they have GREAT parties at their conventions.

Definitely not a fan of the cold weather myself. But at least we do have weather that varies enough around here. When I lived in Seattle, it would rain. Other days it would rain. Then there were the days where you would have, well, rain. Those were the three kinds of weather out in Washington.
No wonder bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, & Soundgarden flourished out there in the 90's. Depressing weather brings out depressing lyrics.
Not to say I didn't like those bands, btw.

I was a little old to get into that whole grunge "thing" when it was popular. I vaguely remember Soundgarden but the most I know about Nirvana was that Cobain knocked himself off and that they figure prominently into the lyrics of "1985" by Bowling for Soup.
I don't miss WI winters, but I'm getting sick of the TN summers, too. We have (more or less) discernible seasons here, but the summers are really oppressive.

Oh I definitely remember summers out in Tennessee. I used to live out there way back in the day. Very hot, very humid. The humidity is what would bury me. But yeah I lived in a small town called Estill Springs. I think the population at the time was around 500 or so. Just went on Wikipedia, Estill Springs' population is now over 2000 !!! But my parents live out in Alabama so they get to deal with the brutal humidity also. Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

The weather is still OK here. A cold front came in, and so it gets in the upper 20s and lower 30s at night, but days have been 50s and 60s. This weekend it will be around 75F!

You're an evil, evil man for telling me that. ;) I think the wind chill yesterday brought the temperature down to like 1 degree Fahrenheit. :shiver:

Well it looks like it will be zero degrees Fahrenheit for the NFC playoff game on Sunday here in Green Bay, wind chill 15 or 20 degrees below zero. I really feel sorry about the people in attendance at that game -- they'll be extremely cold, but I'm guessing they'll be somewhat warm with all the beer consumption before, during, & after the game, regardless of the outcome. I think the world of Brett Favre but I have to say it ...
Go Giants !!!!
